George Simenon, the journey of a Belgian Writer
Born in Liège on 12 February 1903 and deceased in Lausanne on 4 September 1989, Simenon was a journalist and the author, under some 25 nicknames, of 176 popular novels and of more than 200 novels, 155 short stories and 25 autobiographical texts under his real name. He owes his fame among the general public to his detective stories, and particularly to the Commissaire Maigret who, from 1931 to 1972, carries his negligent and rude insight through 75 novels and 28 short stories, outshining a little bit on the way a work with a unique tone. The exhibition of the Museum of letters and manuscripts outlines, on a chronological way, the life and the work of Georges Simenon, in eight parts: "A childhood in Liège and the departure to Paris", "Georges Simenon and Liège", "Georges Simenon and Tigy Renchon", "Georges Simenon and Maigret", "Georges Simenon and the post-war years", "Georges Simenon and the writing", "Georges Simenon, America and Denyse Ouimet" and "Georges Simenon and his return to Europe".
