Frugality in inditement.
Thanks to Paty Sonville Atelier 340 Muzeum has discovered the work by Vincent Dubois. The work by this artist is characterized by temperate interventions on plates of petit granit. He uses a simple and monotonous language. The approach is spontaneous, large surfaces are treated like they are part of a large bloc-note on which he lets his intuition express it-selves and pens down all of this in a – seemingly – volatile way. His focus is on matter. A battle develops with the hard, stubborn and powerful plates. For the artist stone is an important element for man in order to start to comprehend the illusion of omnipotence. Interlaced in the artist's practice are clear notions of the Philosophy classes he began some time ago. It drives him to the ultimate issue of dematerialization, an issue on which the roots for an answer already appear in his work.
